OotyOoty sometimes abbreviated to Udhagai Tamil: is a city, a municipality and the district capital of the Nilgiris district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Ootacamund is a popular hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills. The origin of the name Ootacamund is obscure, but “mund” is the Badaga word for a Toda village, and it is probably a corruption of the Badaga name for the central region of the Nilgiri Plateau. Another likely origin of the stem of the name (”Ootaca”) comes from the local language Tamil where “Otta-Cal” literally means “Single Stone”. This is perhaps a reference to a sacred stone revered by the local Toda people. Udhagamandalam is a more recent official Tamil name for the town. Ooty stands at an approximate height of 7,440 feet (2,268 metres) above sea level.

Do you know the Difference between Organic Search Listing and Paid listings?

March 28, 2007

Do you know the Difference between Organic Search Listing and Paid listings?

According to the Pew Internet & American life Project, 62% of searchers are unaware of the distinction between paid and unpaid results. 38 % of searchers are aware of a distinction between paid and unpaid results. So what are paid and unpaid search results?

Organic Search Listing or unpaid search results are websites that are listed in Search Engine page results for free usually found by search engine spiders or robots and then ranked based on the formula by the search engines.

Spiders, web crawler or Robots is a program or automated script which browses the internet in a methodical, automated manner. Web Crawlers crawls the web by browsing most of the websites out there and tries to find new websites built. Whenever the web crawler visits a website, it takes a snap shot or a picture of that particular website and stores it in its database and indexes it to later bring the relevant websites up whenever we search for a keyword. The way search engines index and rank the site differs from one search engine to another search engine.

Organic Search listings are the websites that shown in the search engine page results when you search for specific keyword, which is free and in order to get this free organic search engine results the designers, programmers or the Search engine Optimizer should follow the guidelines provided by these search engines while building the website. Some of the formulas are. Having a keyword rich page Title, have a keyword rich Description, having reputed links from trusted websites, having keywords within the copy basically building a website for a normal user where they can find useful information. There are number of guidelines given by these search engines. I have listed only a few.

On the other hand, Paid listing or Pay per click is websites that are usually listed either on the top and or listed on the right side of the results where it says sponsored results. In order to get listed in those results, they have to pay the search engines to be listed there in those areas. Normally it is based on bidding for keywords. If you want your website to be higher on the paid search results, you have to be the higher bidder for that particular keyword to get on top of other websites. If you are bidding for highly competitive keywords, you will eventually have to pay more in order to get into the top listings.

Organic Search Results and Paid listings have their own advantages. If you are looking for a short term or a seasonal listings, paid listings are one of the easiest and fastest way to get in to search results, Organic search listings are long term and will take time to get into search results depending on how much you follow the guidelines and dedicate the time to optimize the site.

If you are building a website in-house or if you have a web design company do it for you, either way your website should follow the basic guidelines provided by search engines like Google, Yahoo ,MSN and other search engines.

Google Guidelines

You can find Google’s guidelines here in this link: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769

What are these guidelines? If you take a step back and think about these guidelines, these guidelines are not designed for search engines but also the way humans think and view a site, for example the guidelines say use Alt tags for images. Alt tags are alternative tags for images, it is used to identify an image or to tell the search engine about the image. Search engines cannot read images, movies, flash. For now, it might change in the future. Alt tags are not only used for search engine purposes, but it is used for humans too, more accessibility. Consider the loading time. If you have a huge images or a lot of images, how much time will it take to load the page. You have 5 seconds to capture the attention of the visitors, if your page takes a long time to load, your visitor will go to the next site, may be your competitors site. So what can you do about it???

Image Optimization and tips

Ø      Images are good. Try to use images sparingly

Ø      Alternatively you can have a separate page for image gallery if necessary

Ø      If you have images, provide alt tags

Ø      Try to turn off the images in the browser and see if that makes sense or if your visitors can understand the content without the pictures.

Ø      Have unique alt tags for the images instead of stuffing keyword

Ø      If you having a picture of your product, have a description about that product

Ø      If it is appropriate to have links, optimize so, from there you might find visitors visiting your site.

Prediction of Internet in 2007. Are we ready?

December 1, 2006

Prediction of Internet in 2007. Are we ready? No, it’s not too early to think about technologies and Innovations that will change the way we do business and our day to day life.

Bradenton, Fl December 01 2006:  The New Web
Some of the jargons are Web 3.0 or defined as Semantic Web, Mash ups, Voice Recognizing search engines, Artificial Intelligence, Videos, Smart Image Tagging, MSN Live search, Mobile Technology with Image recognition with Map, GPS, Product reviews, recommendations, Price info, links, Video links, Ads in mobile, etc.  Are we ready for new web??

How is the new web going to change our life and business?Experts predict the way we search, the way we get results from a search will be a totally different experience. Today when we search we get related results but in the Web 3.0 will give results with a combination of all related results within one result. Today it might be confusing, once we see and use it, we will get used to it.

What is Semantic Web?Semantic Web is almost like how Google’s Algorithm works, but it will be more specific and unique to your query. For example, if you want to go on a Vacation to a cold climate and you have a 10 year old with you, a pet and your budget is $ 3000.00, in Web 3.0 you will get the results with a combination of the entire query you requested in one unique result. But now even thou you get travel related results, the results are not unique.

TechnologyIn the near future, you will take data, search and everything on the go. Even today, you are able to watch your favorite TV shows, Recorded TV shows in your Laptop or Desktop remotely. You can even change the recording schedules and so. You will be seeing Ads in your cell phone related to your test messages. For example if you text message your friend that you are thinking of going out for dinner, you will see ads that will suggest some of the restaurants near by the location you send the text message from with a Map, reviews, Menus and the prices.

Are we ready for this??These technologies and more are not going to take much time to implement, but are we prepared for this? If businesses in our areas don’t adapt to these changes, obviously one of your competitor is going to implement and take advantage of these technologies.Suresh Babu is a Project Manager and a Search Analyst of The Fox Internet Marketing Solutions, A Division of the Fox Advertising Agency, Inc. Real Estate SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Making a Smart Choice

October 26, 2006

Sarasota Real Estate Website Owners

Real Estate SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Making a Smart Choice
By Jason Leister

As a real estate professional, you qualify as a prime prospect for most companies
offering real estate SEO (search engine optimization) services.

You want more sales and more listings and they want you to
believe that they can give that to you.

If you haven’t already gotten calls, emails or letters from a few real estate SEO
companies telling you that they can get your real estate website into the top ten of
this or that search engine… get ready, because they’re coming…

A lot of real estate professionals struggle with whether or not to make an
investment in a company to manage their SEO campaign.

Will it be worth your investment?  Will you get burned?

There is no right decision, but there are smart ones and dumb ones.

Here are a few things to think about as you make your decision about real estate
SEO:

1. SEO is just one piece of the internet marketing puzzle.  Hiring a
company to optimize your real estate website for the search engines is not
necessarily a bad thing, just understand that it is only one part of your internet
marketing plan.  Focusing too much on SEO leaves a lot of money on the table.
Having good rankings makes it seem like your website will be a successful generator
or real estate leads.  Not so.

In the past, search engine optimization WAS pretty much synonymous with internet
marketing.  SEO WAS marketing on the internet – that was all you needed to do to
get noticed and get leads.  Times are different now.

Understand that your marketing has to be right FIRST, before you even set foot onto
the internet and spend time and money bringing prospects to your real estate
website.

That means you need to identify your market, create a message suited perfectly for
them and deliver that message with the media that they are known to respond to.

That must be done before you even think about SEO.

——————

2. There are no SEO guarantees.  Many SEO companies that are out there
cold-calling realtor lists often guarantee results or give the impression that there is
some guarantee of results.

There are no guarantees.  Results-based guarantees from a Search Engine
Optimization company are a good sign for you to run the other way.

Don’t even waste your time talking to them.

——————

3. Listen to exactly what the company you are speaking with is offering.
Most SEO companies that call you will make bold promises about improving the
rankings of your website.  Many of them are very good at what they do.  Sounds
simple enough, right?

But what exactly is your goal – Good rankings or more real estate business?  Don’t
get caught up in the myth that better rankings = more sales or more leads or
listings.  Better rankings equals better rankings.  That’s it.

In a nutshell, know that SEO is important and good search engine rankings are
important… but SEO is not a silver-bullet for your real estate business.  It will not fix
your marketing and although a well optimized real estate website might bring a
flood of prospects to your door, what good is it if they never knock and ask to come
in?

——————

4. Marketing is marketing is marketing…  Always has been, always will be.
The internet hasn’t changed anything about that.  What the internet does do is give
you a very efficient delivery system to use for your marketing message.

Whether or not you seek outside help for your internet marketing campaign, the
important thing to remember is that you don’t abdicate responsibility for your own
marketing by “outsourcing” it.  Outsourcing your own marketing, even on the
internet, is not a smart decision.  After all, marketing is by far the most leveraged
activity you can possible engage in.

Marketing IS the business you are in.

You are the mastermind.  You come up with the plan… THEN you hire someone to
do the implementation.

Property Prices Beat Prediction

October 26, 2006

Hello

Today I was browsing thru some Sarasota Real Estate status, Mortgage Predictions and more, came across this article.

Property Prices Beat Prediction
By Susy Copus

The property market has been unexpectantly lively with the rise in prices of 3.4% in the year so far.  Top mortgage providers predicted that the rise in property prices for the whole of 2006 would be only 3%.

Over the last month the average property price has risen by 1.4%.  According to www.wheresmyproperty.com, the highest changes over for last month were in County Tyrone (+7.1%), Avon (+5.7%) and the Borders (+5.6%).

So where could this lead?  If the rises in house prices continue at the same rate throughout the year the rises will reach double digit growth.  The demand for houses is strong – the number of loans approved for buying houses was over 25% higher than a year ago, the economy is expanding, there are high levels of employment and interest rates continue to be low.

However, the high level of house prices in relation to earnings could lessen the housing demand. First time buyers have difficulty to earn a large enough income to secure a mortgage and save for a deposit.  Bills have risen to such an extent that council tax and utility bills will represent around 35% of the total housing costs in 2006/7, overtaking mortgage interest payment as the largest cost for homeowners.

Yet these factors are unlikely to have a large enough effect to dent the housing market.  If the house prices were to rise enough to cause concern the Bank of England would be likely to put up interest rates which would produce a slow down.

London is the traditional driver of property price inflation and according to www.wheresmyproperty.com the prices in London are rising.  The top areas were Camden and the City of London which both rose over 10% in the last 2 months.

Despite the pessimism property prices have already beaten the year’s predictions and the prices look set to continue to rise.
